Horse shows are an exciting part of the hunter/jumper world! They give riders the chance to put their skills to the test, showcase what they’ve been learning in lessons, and experience the thrill of performing in front of others. But horse shows are about so much more than ribbons—they’re about growth, confidence, and connection with your horse.
Why Do We Have Shows?
Horse shows provide riders with goals to work toward and opportunities to measure their progress. They also help riders learn how to perform under a little pressure, manage show-day nerves, and celebrate their accomplishments—big or small. For many, it’s not just about competition, but about community and teamwork.
The Benefits for Riders
Confidence: Riders gain confidence by stepping into the ring and showing what they’ve practiced.
Experience: Shows mimic real-life competition scenarios, teaching riders how to stay calm and focused.
Growth: Constructive feedback and the chance to watch other riders are valuable learning opportunities.
Fun & Friendship: Shows bring riders, families, and barn friends together in a supportive atmosphere.
What to Expect at a Horse Show
At a hunter/jumper show, riders can participate in classes that focus on equitation (the rider’s form and control) and jumping courses (style, rhythm, and accuracy). Riders prepare by warming up, learning patterns, and then taking turns in the ring. While ribbons and placings are fun, the main takeaway is always experience and progress.
Why We Host In-House Showcases
Here at SSRA, we want our riders to experience the benefits of horse shows without the stress, high costs, or travel. That’s why we host in-house showcases right at our barn. Riders get the feel of a show—the atmosphere, the classes, the chance to ride in front of an audience—but in a familiar, supportive environment. It’s the perfect stepping stone before heading out to larger shows.
Our second in-house showcase is coming up soon, and we couldn’t be more excited to see our riders shine. It’s all about learning, confidence-building, and celebrating the journey of riding together!
Tips for Riders & Families
Bring a positive attitude. Every ride is a learning ride, whether you take home a ribbon or not.
Cheer each other on. A supportive barn family makes the day even more fun.
Soak it all in. Watch other riders, enjoy time with your horse, and celebrate the experience.
Capture the memories. Families—bring your cameras and your cheers! These moments go by fast.
We can’t wait to see our riders step into the ring and experience the excitement of show day—right here at home!
These horse shows are amazing! Highly recommended. People of all ages and riding levels will never forget this experience.
